Hybrid Electric Bus Unveiling – As part of Sustainability Week activities, the Town of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech and Sustainable Blacksburg will unveil one of Blacksburg Transit’s new hybrid electric buses. This bus has a distinctive “Go Green Hybrid Power” graphic package that will raise awareness of the University’s and Town’s commitment to sustainability. From what I hear, I think we will like the design. The event will be held outside at the Library Plaza next to Squires on Thursday, September 23rd beginning at 10:00am. I will be speaking at the event along with Bill Claus, President of Sustainable Blacksburg; and Steve Mouras, Director of Transportation and Campus Services at Virginia Tech.

Immediately following this event the hybrid electric bus will be available to take attendees to the Blacksburg Motor Company for the LEED Platinum certification recognition event.

For those who missed it, this is a significant accomplishment. There are very few LEED Platinum buildings in Virginia and I think only one other that dealt with an historic restoration. It is certainly the only LEED Platinum in this part of the state. I should have more statistics by Wednesday and will share them with you.
