Yesterday students and some residents wandered the streets of downtown Blacksburg, talking to various groups about opportunities in the upcoming academic year. The booths ranged from Greek organizations to religious organizations and everything in between. These booths stretched from the bookstore on campus to Main Street and up Draper Road. There was also food and three stages set up for bands and other entertainment. The campus and the town were truly one.

I enjoyed stopping and talking to students, learning where they were from, what they were studying and what they thought of Blacksburg. Most impressions were very positive.

One officer estimated the crowd at close to 20,000. We are very fortunate to have the type of relationship with Virginia Tech that allows us to showcase our downtown to this many students. This is another positive example of our work together.
