Just wanted to point out that your link to bookmark is invalid.
Mike,
Thank you. I had too many http’s in there. It should work now.
Mayor Rordam, thanks for this link and for giving another way of keeping everyone up-to-date on this project.
Wanted to let you know that I spent some time downtown on Saturday afternoon, people watching and walking around. After grabbing a drink at a local store and covering quite a bit of ground, when I was looking for a place where I could recycle the bottle downtown I found no canisters set aside for that purpose. It wasn’t until I went on campus did I find dedicated recycling canisters.
Will recycling containers be available along this improved area? The Town has made tremendous improvements in its commitment to being sustainable, but when I look at our accomplishments (http://www.blacksburg.gov/Index.aspx?page=394), it looks as if we’re falling behind on a very simple step: multiple collection points for recycling downtown. Yes, let’s get people downtown, and let’s encourage them to shop local. But there’s a disconnect between our sustainability goals and what’s currently available (in terms of recycling bins). As an owner of a recycling company (and this is not a plug so I won’t mention the company) I can appreciate the high cost and maintenance of multiple containers, but I hope the Town will find ways to include these as we work towards proving we are in fact a “Cool City”.
Thanks for the input Jeremy. We have talked about this issue for a while. Let me check on the status.
Hi Mayor Rordam,
I just wanted to let you know that my husband and I had the same experience. We had purchased a couple of bottles of soda and were looking for a place to recycle the bottles, and were very disappointed not to locate a single recycling option along main street or in the Farmer’s Market park. I was really surprised! We moved to Blacksburg a year and a half ago (we live up on Knob Hill Drive) and have been so excited about the bike friendly atmosphere and great downtown area, but this was a big disappointment.
